Fish Tacos

When you partner brings back some Flatheads from an afternoon of fishing, you make Fish Tacos!
I am slightly obsessed with homemade Tacos – so fresh and tasty – and they are even better with “straight from the sea” fish.Making Tacos requires a few different elements, but the beauty of it is that you can indefinitely mix it up.
I usually use the same elements as a base, then switch it up a bit depending on what’s in the fridge/supermarket basket:

–  Sliced Avocado or Guacamole
–  Sour Cream or Greek Yoghurt Sauce
–  Coleslaw and/or Mixed Salad
–  Wholegrain Tortilla (one day, I will try to make my own…)
–  Optionally: Meat, Poultry or Fish

This time, I made a Lime & Coriander Sour Cream Sauce to go with the fish; fresh and tangy!

Here are the different steps to make my version of Fish Tacos:

  • 2 Avocado, smashed
  • 1/2 Lemon, Juiced
  • Spices: Salt, Pepper, Garlic, Cumin, Sweet Paprika
  1. Smash the Avocado in a bowl
  2. Add the Lemon Juice and Spices to taste.
Mix well and taste/adjust (the amount of spice required will depend on the individual taste of the avocado…)

Lime & Coriander Sour Cream Sauce

  • 1 Lime – zest and juice
  • 200ml Sour Cream.
Greek Yoghurt will also do if you don’t have Sour Cream
  • 1/4 bunch of Coriander, chopped
  • Spices: Salt, Pepper, Garlic, Cumin
  1. Pour the Sour Cream in a bowl
  2. Add the Lime Zest and Juice – mix well.
The consistency of the Sour Cream should start changing with the Lime juice; it’s normal
  3. Add the chopped Coriander and Spices.
Leave in the fridge until serving.

 Mixed Salad

  • 2 Tomatoes, diced
  • 3 Lebanese Cucumbers, diced
  • 1/4 Red Cabbage, sliced
  • 1 can of Sweet Corn
  • 1 can of Kidney Beans
  • 1 Spring Onion, chopped
  • 1/2 bunch of Coriander, chopped
  • 1 Lime, juiced
  • 2 tbsp. Olive Oil
  • Spices: Salt, Pepper, Garlic, Cumin
  1. Cut the Tomatoes, Cucumbers & Cabbage and put in a big bowl
  2. Add the can of Corn and Beans
  3. Mix in the chopped Spring Onion and Coriander
  4. Add the juice of one Lime and the Olive Oil
  5. Spice to taste

If you decide to add a Protein, cook it as required.
I will not describe how we cooked the Fish, as the lenght and style of cooking will depend on the type of fish you choose.
Only make sure you have removed all the bones before serving in the tacos.

To assemble the Tacos:

  1. Warm up a soft shell tortilla in a pans for a couple of minutes
  2. Put the tortilla in a plate.
In the centre, spread some Guacamole then Sour Cream Sauce
  3. Add the Salad , then the Fish.
You can add a little more Sauce on it if you like
  4. Sprinkle some fresh Coriander on top.
  5. Enjoy!
